Shubhangi is one of the talented vocalists of the Kirana Gharana and was born into a musical family in Hubballi, Karnataka. Her late grandfather, the Musical Maestro, Pt. D. R. Warang and her mother, Smt. Sharada Jadhav, introduced her to music when she was a young child. Her grandfather was a well-known Dharwad artist and guru who taught many of his pupils both vocal and instrumental music. He worked to preserve rare instruments like the sarangi, jalatarang, and dilruba while playing and mastering about six different instruments. Additionally, he put up an orchestra using these unique instruments and worked especially hard to preserve them.
Shubhangi's innate gift blossomed as she grew up admiring her grandfather's commitment to music, and she began displaying a strong interest in Indian Classical Music. She was really fortunate to have a close relationship with Vidhushi Gangubai Hangal and receive her blessings when she was little. Shubhangi was greatly influenced by the Kirana Gharana Tradition of her native Dharwad and developed a strong interest in the Kirana Gharana Gayaki, moving on to pursue training in it.
After choosing to pursue a career in Hindustani Classical Music, Shubhangi moved to Thane - Mumbai, in 2009 with the goal of learning. She had the good fortune to obtain the Talim of the Kirana Gharana from Vidushi Smt. Vibhavari Bandhavkar of Thane, a senior disciple of Surmani Pt. Achyut K. Abhyankar(senior most disciple of Pt Firoz dastur). She stayed with her guru for 8 years where She went through rigorous training and was groomed in Khyal Gaayaki. She was also trained in semi-classical and light musical styles. Shubhangi's guru was confident in her future as a musician because of her intense dedication and desire to study. Shubhangi has enriched and expanded her musical horizons and has emerged as a promising vocalist in the Hindustani classical music genre.
Gifted with a clear, open and mellifluous voice of a wide range and depth, Shubhangi has tried to shape a style of her own. Her perfections in sur and command on taal seems to be adding to her confidence. Her aesthetic approach and creative thinking adds on to her performances. She also contributes in Semi Classical singing forms such as Thumari, Jhula, Dadra etc with ease and melody.
